Backstep Forward Newsletter

A short, to-the-point, weekly newsletter.

One challenge to take a step back.

One idea to propel you forward.

In 2020 I was beginning to feel overwhelmed by the workload of my business. It was not the level of stress that I wanted for myself or my family. Stepping back I saw that I had too many clients and was charging far too little compared to what I was offering in the marketplace.

I decided to reduce my client load by 50% and increase my fees by 20-30% depending on the client's complexity. My total hours worked dropped dramatically and my income stayed the same!

That’s not the best part.

A year later, my wife had twin boys. I don’t need to tell you how thankful we were for the change I had made the year prior.

Backstep

Look at your current time commitments outside of what is truly most important to you. Pick two commitments, whether work or personal, that add little to no value compared to the time they devour. Eliminate them.

Forward

Be careful on this one. Look at your current commitments. What is the one thing that you need to double down on that will add the greatest value, whether it be to your relationships, income, health, etc. Choose wisely. Only add or expand on the thing that gives you the most return for your time.

Only in the future will you fully know the importance of today’s decisions. (share this on Twitter)
